Dr. Kathy Kihl is a licensed clinical psychologist who works with children, adolescents, and adults and also deals extensively with families as they relate to difficulties with children and adolescents. Dr. Kihl received her Associate Degree in Science from Northern Virginia Community College in 1991. She continued her education and received a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) Degree in Psychology from George Mason University and then earned a Master of Arts (M.A.) Degree in Clinical Psychology from the American School of Professional Psychology/Virginia Campus. In 2005 Dr. Kihl earned a Doctoral Degree (Psy D.) in Clinical Psychology from Argosy University/Washington, D.C.
Dr. Kihl has worked in a variety of settings including both the private and public sectors. Working in these environments, Dr. Kihl has experience in the psychological assessment of children, adolescents and adults with emotional and behavioral problems. She provided individual, family, and group therapy to clients presenting with depression, anxiety, ADHD, learning disabilities, adjustment, substance use/abuse, marital issues, domestic violence, homelessness, unemployment, and chronic mental illness. Her experience also has included emergency services assessing and treating individuals in crisis situations. Dr. Kihl is experienced in a variety of therapy modalities including family systems, cognitive behavioral, psychodynamic, and approaches clients integrating and tailoring her treatment to the unique needs of the individual client.
Although experienced in working with children and adults she has a special interest in adolescents with a focus on identity development and optimal functioning. As the mother of teenagers, Dr. Kihl brings a unique knowledge and sensitivity of this population.
In summary Dr. Kihl brings a broad range of clinical skills to MindWorks and is passionate about the services she conducts. In addition to her work Dr. Kihl is married and is the mother of triplet teenage children. This has provided her with a considerable amount of at-home experience with adolescent behavior. Dr. Kihl enjoys swimming, walking and spending time with her family.
